Combined Protective Effects of Quercetin, Rutin, and Gallic Acid against Cadmium-Induced Testicular Damages in Young-Adult Rats

Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic metal that damages several tissues of animals and humans including the testis. The ameliorative effects quercetin (QUE), rutin (RUT), gallic acid (GAL) at 20 mg kg-1 body weight alone or in combination against testicular injury induced by Cd (24 weight) male Wistar rats were evaluated this study. Forty-two (42) randomly grouped into six (6) groups: (1) vehicle control group, (2) (3) RUT+Cd (4) GAL+Cd (5) QUE+Cd RUT+GAL+QUE+Cd group. At end oral gavage tested chemicals, sacrificed, blood samples collected, testes harvested processed for biochemical assays. exposure damaged testis (smaller epithelium thickness spermatogenesis index sloughing epithelium); increased lipid peroxidation, glutathione S-transferase activity, DNA fragmentation; diminished reductase activity serum testosterone level 40 days posttreatment. Treatment with phenolics separately attenuated effect on testosterone, activities, percent fragmented DNA. nitric oxide concentration group was to values combined (RUT+GAL+QUE+Cd) Coadministration appears have more substantial protective than their single Cd-induced damage, recovery levels index. Overall, can reduce damage efficiently form individual administration.
